MILK AS FOOD PRODUCT दुध और मानव खुराक |
Milk is a 'bhaksh' that is jain shravaks & sadhus can consume it.
Nowhere in our granthas it is prohibited, rather there is a description that Lord Mahavir was given 'kheer'(which is made of milk & rice) by the Shravika Chandana, when thy was in the state of a muni.
What is wrong in having milk?
Whether we kill the cow or its baby when we take its milk?
No not at all
OK I agree that the animal is producing milk for its own baby & not for us,But, it is also true that it has a surplous amount of milk which is far more than the need of its baby.
We care for that animal & give it food, shelter & above all the love.In India, people regard cow as mother(as it gives us milk).
We consider our domestic animal as our family member & there is a provision in our granth to experience 'sootak' when the domestic animal dies (Hindus also follow this).
Now, it is clear that one can't do 'hinsa' on his own family member.
Note:- Jaina dharma is totally against the commercialisation of the dairies which uses injections of oxytocin etc. This is cruelity. This is to be stopped & not the consumption of milk.
Actually this concept which is called as 'vegan' has originated in those western countries where there is a lot of 'hinsa' & cruelity against these animals. In these countries the cows etc are treated like machines producing milk & when they become old they are sent to slaughter houses.Any hearful human will not like this but it is happening.
Now, at this background, many people who are kind-hearted have left drinking the milk of animals- they are totally correct in their decision. But this concept doesn't mean that milk is 'abhaksh'.
We have to ensure that we take care while buying the milk that it is not coming from such dairies which treats the animals with cruelity. We have to ensure that our animals are not reaching to the slaughter houses- for this the hindus & jain organisations are working a lot.Honerable Mrs.Maneka Gandhi is doing a lot in this field.
In the end I would say that before copying the westerners please once examine what has led the particular change in them & then see whether the same circumstances are prevailing in our country or not & then imitate them
